Upcoming SPORTS biopic films that will break all records

Sports biopic is the new trend in Bollywood. Whole hindi cinema is being washed out by the biopics, sports personalities have become a huge source of inspiration, especially for filmmakers, who love content, based on their lives. We’re definitely not complaining, because it defines the very real and inspiring life of sportsperson. So, if the filmmakers are presenting a sportsperson’s story, through their films, it should be a matter of pride for us!

  1. Dingko Singh’s biopic

          Shahid Kapoor is all set for the most ambitious projects of his career. Lately, we have seen a string of films based on sports and the lives of sporting heroes, and now, we will see Shahid portray former boxing champ and Asian Games gold medallist Dingko Singh on screen. The film will be directed by Raja Krishna Menon (who has directed ‘Airlift’ and ‘Chef’), and it will go on floors sometime around April 2019.

  • 2. Saina Nehwal’s Untitled Biopic

           One of the best Badminton players in the country, Saina will have her own biopic soon which will be directed by Amol Gupte. The movie will feature Pareeneti chopra in the lead role and, of course, trace Saina’s journey through her victory over many national and international titles, including the 2012 London Olympics, where she won a bronze medal. Right now Pareeneti is prepping for the role and getting into practice mode, to play the Badminton star. Let’s see if Shraddha can do justice to this role!

  • 3. P.T. Usha’s biopic

           Director Revathy S. Varmha will make a film on the legendary athlete in English to be dubbed in four other languages, Hindi, Malayalam, Chinese and Russian. This film is on news for a long time, earlier Priyanka Chopra was selected to do this film but after her rejection, this film went on to Sonam Kapoor. But it is in the news that Neetu Chandra may do this film.

  • 4. P.V Sindhu’s biopic

           Actor Sonu Sood is producing a film on the young badminton player. While names like Deepika Padukone have been thrown up, a final decision on the cast has not been made yet.

  • 5. Syed Abdul Rahim’s biopic

         Ajay Devgn’s film on the story of Syed Abdul Rahim, football coach and manager of the Indian National Football team from 1950-1963.

Rahim led the team that entered the semi-finals of the Melbourne Olympics Football Tournament, making it the first-ever Asian team to reach that far in the game, according to a Times of India report. His tenure as coach is considered to be the golden age of football in the country.

6.     Dhyan Chand’s Untitled Biopic

          Pooja Shetty’s production house recently approached Dhyan Chand’s son Ashok for permission to make a biopic on his father and he, of course, had no issues with that but requested them to keep the film as authentic as possible. Rumours have it, that Varun Dhawan may play the legend and that SRK was approached for the role but couldn’t commit, as he is busy with other shoots. Well, we don’t know who plays Dhyan Chand yet but we’re eagerly waiting to find out!

7.      Abhinav Bindra’s biopic

          The ace Indian shooter who won a gold medal in the Olympics has his very own biopic coming out and Kapoor jr., i.e. Harshvardhan Kapoor will be portraying his role, defining his journey through the Olympics. The shoot has already started for the film and Harshvardhan is getting into full form to play Abhinav. The film is also based around Abhinav’s own book titled ‘A Shot At History: My Obsessive Journey To Olympic Gold’.

8.     Mithila Raj’s biopic

Viacom 18 Motion Pictures is soon releasing a biopic on India’s favourite female cricketer and we’re anticipating this one with bated breath! We’re not sure who is playing her yet, but we do hope it’s someone who can do absolute justice to the role! Mithali hopes that more young girls and women are inspired through this movie and take up sports as a career in India.

9.     “83”

            A movie that will unite the two biggest religions of India – Bollywood and cricket – ’83 will tell us the incredible story of India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup victory. Ranveer Singh will play the role of star cricketer Kapil Dev in the movie and we believe this one will rule the theatres in August 2019.

10. The Pullela Gopichand biopic

An untitled biopic on ace badminton player Pullela Gopichand has been announced by Fox Star Studios along with Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment. The producers are yet to finalise a director or cast for the film that will reportedly be made both in Hindi and Telugu. 

11. K.D. Jadav Biopic

The wrestler who won the bronze medal at the 1952 summer Olympics in Helsinki, Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav was one of the first athletes to win an Olympics medal. The biopic will star actor and wrestler Sangram Singh in the titular role and is set to release soon.
