Kaun Banega Crorepati is an Indian television game show based on the British program Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? It originally aired on Star Plus for the first 3 seasons from 2000 to 2007 and was commissioned by the programming team of Sameer Nair. Since 2010, it has been airing on Sony TV and produced by Big Synergy. The Season 11 was premiered on 19 August 2019 and entered it’s “Finale Week” on 25 November 2019 and ended on 29 November 2019.
Kaun Banega Crorepati has certainly become one of the most loved shows and a household name. The ₹12.5 lakh question that made Mansi Joshi quit the show
Mansi Joshi from Bengaluru, Karnataka, won ₹6,40,000 with the help of four lifelines, but she failed to answer the question worth ₹12,50,000.
The question was, “NR Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, is the father-in-law of which British MP?”
The options were: Seema Kennedy, Alok Sharma, Rishi Sunak and Preet Gill. The correct answer to the question was Rishi Sunak.
The ₹6.4 lakh question that made Jitender Singh Chauhan quit the show
Jitender Singh Chauhan from Delhi played well and won ₹3,20,000. However, he failed to answer the eleventh question worth ₹6,40,000. The question was, “Which former Prime Minister said, “history will be kinder to me than the contemporary media?”
The options were: Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Rajiv Gandhi, Vishwanath Pratap Singh and Manmohan Singh. The correct answer to the question was Manmohan Singh
The ₹6,40,000 question that Narendra Kumar failed to answer
Narendra Kumar from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh played well until the tenth question worth Rs 3,20,000 but failed to answer the 11th question.
The question was, “Which of the following members of the 17th Lok Sabha is a black belt in Aikido, a Japanese martial art?”
Options were–Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Gandhi, Anurag Thakur and Tejasvi Surya. The correct answer was Rahul Gandhi.
The ₹50-lakh question that made Usha Yadav quit
She quit the show when she was asked the question for ₹50 lakh. The question was, “In mythology, what was the name of Hiranyakashipu’s wife and Prahlad’s mother?”
The options given were Kapinjala, Kayadhu, Kamalakshi and Kaushiki. The correct answer was Kayadhu. Usha walked away with ₹25 lakhs.
The question that prevented Madhuri Asati from winning ₹25 lakh
Madhuri Ramesh Asati from Pusad, Maharashtra played well and won Rs 12,50,000. But she walked away with only Rs 3,20,000 after giving the wrong answer to a question worth Rs 25 lakh.
The question was, ‘The planet Saturn’s atmosphere primarily consists of which gas?’
The options were–Helium, Methane, Hydrogen and Ammonium. After taking a lot of time, Madhuri gave the answer as Methane, which was incorrect. The correct answer was Hydrogen.
The ₹50 lakh question that made Deepjyoti quit the show
Deepjyoti who hails from Daltonganj, Jharkhand had won ₹25 lakh when she was stumped by ₹50 lakh question. Since she had used all her lifelines, she decided to quit the show.
The question was, ‘Who was first Indian director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore?‘
The options were: Dorabji Tata, CV Raman, Homi Jehangir Bhabha, Satish Dhawan. The correct answer to the question was C.V Raman.
₹25 lakh question that Akhilesh Kumar got wrong
Akhilesh Kumar Ambesh from Hathras won ₹12,50,000 but the thirteenth question prevented him from winning further and he walked away with ₹3,20,000 only.
The question was: ‘After which historical or mythological figure did Sri Lanka name its first satellite?’
Options were–Kuber, Buddha, Vibhishana, Ravana. Akhilesh guessed Buddha as the answer which was incorrect. The correct answer was Ravana.
The ₹6,40,000 question that made Shivani Dhingra leave the show
Shivani Dhingra, from Hrishikesh, Uttarakhand had used all her lifelines by the time she reached the question which would have won her Rs 6,40,000. She didn’t know the answer so decided to quit the show.
The question was ‘Besides Nathuram Godse, who else was hanged at Ambala Jail on November 15, 1949, for having assassinated Gandhiji?’
The options were Vishnu Karkare, Digmabar Badge, Shankar Kistayya and Narayan Apte. Correct answer was Narayan Apte.
The ₹12,50,000 question that made Shailesh Bansal quit the show
hailesh Bansal from Gurugram played brilliantly until he got the question for ₹12,50,000. He didn’t know and was not left with ant lifeline so he decided to quit the show.
The question that made Shailesh quit the show was – ‘Who started his career as a music composer in films as Sharmaji of the duo ‘Sharmaji-Varmaji’?’
The options were – Khayyam, Naushad, Roshan, Jaidev. The correct answer is Khayyam.
The ₹12,50,000 question that made Anil Joshi quit
Joshi was the only contestant from the pool that answered the Fastest Fingers First question correctly. The 66-year-old contestant from Nagpur chose to quit the game when he was presented with the question for ₹ 12,50,000.
The question was ‘Which river did the soldiers of Alexander refuse to cross during his Indian campaign, which caused the Greeks to withdraw?’
The options were – Sutlej, Chenab, Beas and Jhelum. Anil wasn’t sure about the answer and with no lifelines left, he chose to quit the game. After quitting, he guessed the answer as Chenab which was wrong. The right answer was Beas.
Nineteen-year-old trainee pilot Himanshu Dhuria lost ₹1 cr after this question
Himanshu, quite ironically, knew the answer to the tricky question but decided to not risk the ₹50 lakh he had already won.
The question posed to him was about the Sirr-e-Akbar. “Whose Persian translation of several Upanishads is known as the Sirr-e-Akbar“?
The options provided were Abul Fazal, Shah Wallulah Dehlvi, Dara Shikoh and Ahmad al-Sirhindi. Dara Shikoh was the right answer.
A ₹7 crore question that stumped Sanoj Raj
Bihar’s Sanoj Raj, an IAS aspirant, emerged as the first crorepati on “KBC 11”. He, however, didn’t know the answer to the bumper ₹7 crore question.
The ₹1 crore question was: “The father of which Chief Justice Of India was one of the first Chief Minister of an Indian state?“
The correct answer being Ranjan Gogoi.
After Sanoj answered the question, he faced this bumper ₹7 crore question – “Who was the Indian bowler off whom Australian legend Don Bradman got a single to reach his 100th first class century?”
The four options given to Sanoj were Baqa Jilani, Commandur Rangachari, Gogumal Kishenchand and Kanwar Rai Singh. The correct answer was Gogumal Kishenchand but the contestant bowed out of the game as he didn’t know the answer.
The ₹1,60,000 question that Suraj Shevatkar answered incorrectly
Suraj Ashok Shevatkar from Maharashtra exhausted all his lifelines by the eighth question worth Rs 80,000 and failed to answer the ninth question worth Rs 1,60,000. Ultimately, he took home Rs 10,000 after giving the wrong answer.
The question that Suraj got wrong was, “Which portfolio did the person in this image hold from 1998-2001 and 2001-2004, in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government?”
Options were Finance, Defence, External Affairs and Railways. The person shown in the image was George Fernandes. The correct answer was Defence.
₹25 lakh question that made Bhavesh Kumar quit the show
Bhavesh Kumar Jha from Noida, Uttar Pradesh played smartly and won Rs 12,50,000 with the help of four lifelines. But it was the 13th question worth Rs 25,00,000 which made him quit the show.
The question was, “Which is the largest aircraft by weight ever built?” Options were Airbus A380-800, Antonov AN-225 Mriya, Antonov AN-124 Ruslan and Hughes H-4 Hercules. The correct answer was Antonov AN-225 Mriya.
₹50 lakh question that made Pankaj quit the show
Pankaj Maheshwari from Jaipur, Rajasthan played well until the 13th question worth Rs 25 lakh. The 14th question worth Rs 50 lakh made him quit the Amitabh Bachchan-hosted show.
The question that made Pankaj quit the show was, ‘For whom did Allama Iqbal write these lines, “Hind Ko Ek Mard-e-Kamil Ne Jagaya Khwab Se”?’ Options were Guru Nanak, Nizamuddin Auliya, Ranjit Singh and Mirza Ghalib. The correct answer was Guru Nanak.

Akshay Upadhyay from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, won ₹1,60,000 with the help of four helplines but failed to cross the second ‘padhav’ which would have ensured he took home ₹3,20,000.

Ankeeta Kaul Ahlawat from Panchkula, Haryana walked away with ₹1,60,000 as she had no lifelines at her disposal.
The question was, ‘Who became only the 4th cricketer after Javed Miandad, Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya to complete 20 years playing ODI cricket?’
