Everyone is well aware of the fact that Bollywood and cricket share a remarkable connection. Stars are often seen at cricket games to cheer for their favorite ones, but if you see the other way these cricketers have also been part of the Bollywood industry in some way.
So here is a list of those cricketers who have also worked in Bollywood movies over the past years.
1. Yuvraj Singh
Must be wondering when did he ever work in a film? Well, he played a cameo in a Punjabi film when he was just 11 years old. Other than that he also gave voice to a character in the animated film “Jumbo” which released in the year 2008.
2. Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar is a legendary player in the world of cricket. His skills don’t end there as he also worked in a Marathi film named “Savli Premachi” which released in the year 1980, the time when he was playing for the national team too. He also sang a song in that film where he compares reality with cricket and it was praised by all.
3. Ajay Jadeja
This former cricketer was banished from his own sport as he played a part in match-fixing which led to a big scandal. Then he tried acting in a film named “Khel” which released in the year 2003. The film was a major flop so he went back to field but as a commentator.
4. Vinod Kambli
Another talent that came out bright as the light from Mumbai was Vinod Kambli. He started his career with Sachin but due to his non-disciplinary issues, he lost his cricket career. He then tried acting in the year 2000 with a film named “Aanarth” in which Suneil Shetty was the main lead. But that movie was also a disaster.
5. Kapil Dev
He is one of the most successful Indian cricketers who earned a huge amount of respect on and off the field. After his retirement, he did some small roles in movies like “Mujhse Shaadi Karogi”, “Iqbal”, and “Stumped”.
6. Syed Kirmani
He’s well known for his outspoken personality and also as a wonderful wicket-keeper. This personality helped him grab some roles in Bollywood and in 1985 he did try acting in the film named “Kabhi Ajnabi The”. Well the viewers really disliked this film.
7. Sandeep Patil
Syed Kirmani wasn’t alone in the film “Kabhi Ajnabi The”, he shared the screen with Sandeep Patil. The movie did not work well and since then they never did any movie together or alone.
8. Salil Ankola
Salil Ankola’s cricketing career was never a success for him, but his movies like “Kurukshetra”, “Churaliya Hai Tumne”, “Chahat Aur Nafrat” did extremely well on the box-office which made him a successful actor. He also worked in a famous horror show named “Sssh Koi Hai”.
9. Yograj Singh
Yuvraj Singh’s father was never a popular cricketer as he played only 6 ODIs and 1 test in his entire career. But he’s quite successful as an actor, he’s well known for playing the role of a coach in “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” and also acted in 30 Punjabi films and 10 Hindi ones.
10. Mohsin Khan
He was well known as an opening batsman for his country but then, later on, he tried his hand in acting and did some good films like “Saathi”, “Ghunghat”, “Batwaara”, etc.
11. Anil Kumble
He played for 18 years straight for his country and is also a commentator and coach. But with others trying their luck in Bollywood, Anil Kumble also tried the same and did a movie in the year 2008 titled “Meerabai Not Out”, which did not go so well.
12. Bret Lee
He’s a former international cricketer from Australia who was well known for his right-arm fast bowling skills. He added to his list of skills when he did a film in the year 2015 titled “Unindian”, which was a major flop at the box-office.
