Dinesh Karthik is an Indian wicket-keeper-batsman who made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 2004. He is the captain of the Indian Premier League team, Kolkata Knight Riders from the 2018 season. The wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik married Nikita Vanjara in 2007 however, their marriage failed miserably following which the duo got separated in 2012 and in November 2013, he got engaged to Dipika Pallikal and eventually got married in 2005. His current wife is a professional squash player and a successful sports star. In fact, she is the first Indian to break into the top 10 in the World Squash Women’s rankings.
Dinesh Karthik grabbed headlines after his stellar performance in Nidahas Trophy finals against Bangladesh, especially after he hit a six on the last ball of the match!! But, none of us might have heard about her equally qualified and famous wife Dipika Palikal Karthik. Unfortunately, India is a country where people only focus on cricket and cricketers and other sportspeople like her don’t get as much attention as they deserve. Thus, despite her huge success, she is relatively unknown as compared to her cricketer husband.
Well, just like him, Dipika is a professional sportsperson and represents India in the field of squash. Apart from this, Dipika Pallikal has been honored with two of the most prestigious awards, the Padma Shri and the Arjuna Award!!
She is currently ranked 20th in World Rankings and 2nd in India Rankings and is considered a huge role model for many sportswomen across India. On the International front, Dipika has won many tournaments and has already got an Asian Games Bronze medal and a Commonwealth Games Gold medal under her belt. It was quite amazing to see Dipika in action at 2018 CWG where she conquered a silver medal.
Apart from this, the gold won by Pallikal and Chinappa in 2014 was India’s first-ever squash medal at the Games. Besides Squash, Dipika is also a Brand Ambassador for “sports365.in” which is an online store which deals in selling sports goods and fitness equipment.
She boycotted National Championship Squash competition for three years (2012 until 2015) due to the inequality in prize money as women National Champions were awarded only 40 percent of what their men counterparts got. She only returned to National Championship in 2016 when equal prize money was finally agreed upon and went on to upset Joshna Chinappa (who is also her doubles partner) and win the title. Dipika is also a style icon and could have become a model or an actor rather than being ventured into a professional Squash.
Undoubtedly, she is a woman who is far beyond her time and has always led by example. So, here are a few pictures which prove that she would have been an equally amazing model if she had chosen this field :
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” seems true for her!!!
Wow, how adorable they look together!! What do you think?
Now, that’s a killer one!!
She looks just like a fairy in this white dress!!
A smile is the best makeup any girl can wear, and her smile proves this one!!
