While we always praise the actors, actresses, and the story of the film, there are various other people whose work remains unnoticed in the film. A successful film is not only the work of the actor or the villain, but the credit of its being hit at the box office goes to the person behind the camera as well. Various other factors ultimately make the film a blockbuster including cameraman, spot boy, directors, producers, and the list goes on. It is the hard work of a team together that makes it possible to weave a story and present it to the world through cinema. 

When we say this, a thought that runs through the mind at first is that how are we as viewers able to recognize the hard work of the people behind the camera? Right!? We could only praise the actors and actresses in the film because those are the ones that we have been seeing for the entire film!! Well, who doesn’t like to be in front of the camera!! So, to your utter surprise, the trend of directors appearing in their films has been prevalent in the industry for ages however, we certainly fail to notice their presence in the first place!!

There are various Bollywood hit blockbuster movies that no matter how many times you have watched, you still might not have noticed the scenes where these directors made a cameo in their movies. Prakash Jha

A multi-talented personality who is not only a prominent director but also an Indian film producer, actor, and screenwriter who is well known for his work in political and socio-political films. The director has been a part of various esteemed Bollywood movies like Damul, Gangaajal, Apaharan, Raajneeti, etc. Hailing from Bihar, the producer runs a production company named Prakash Jha Productions.

Talking About the director doing a cameo in his film, the director made an appearance in his movie ‘Satyagraha’ which as per him was an instinctive decision to feature in the scene. The film Satyagraha was an Indian political drama and a multi-starrer film with some renowned faces of Bollywood including, Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Rao, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee, and many more. This 2013 film was rated 5.9 by IMDB and was declared a flop by the box office.

Remo D’souza

Choreographer turned director, Remo surprised his fans not only with his movie directing skills but also by making an appearance in both his movies ‘ABCD: Any Body Can Dance‘ and ‘ABCD-2‘.

Siddharth Anand

Siddharth Anand is a director and writer who works predominantly in Hindi films. This director is regarded as one of the best filmmakers of Hindi cinema. Before we began listing out the names of the movies that he entertained us with, it might come as a surprise to you that all the movies we list down would certainly be your favorite. Do you remember the 2005 comedy romantic film Salaam Namaste?

Well, this critically acclaimed movie was one of the best works of the director. While we have watched this film innumerable times, you might have failed to notice the scene where the director made an appearance. Yes, he played the character of a Punjabi taxi driver to Preity Zinta during the climax sequence. And not only this, but he has also starred in his other movie ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’. The work of the director includes films like Hum Tum, Ta Ra Rum Pum, Anjaana Anjaani, Bang Bang!, War, and the upcoming film Pathan. 

Yash Chopra

Well, not only his son but the great director Yash Chopra along with his wife made a cameo in his movie! The film Dil Toh Pagal Hai, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and Karisma Kapoor in the prominent roles was a work by Yash Chopra. This director was seen in the opening scene of the film where he was seen romancing with his wife, Pamela, sitting together on a bench with the song ‘Ek Duje Ke Vaaste’ playing in the background. How romantic, Right!?

Ayan Mukerji

The director Ayan Mukerji made his directorial debut at the tender age of 26 with the coming-of-age comedy Wake Up Sid in 2009 and has never looked back ever since. The director made a cameo in his 2013 musical romantic comedy-drama, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which was one of the highest-grossing films ever. The director made an appearance not only once but twice throughout the movie.

He was first spotted playing one of the wedding guests in the song ‘Badtameez Dil’ pouring drinks. Then later, he was seen again in the scene sitting next to Ranbir Kapoor when he was singing the song Kabhie Kabhie Mere Dil Mein. 

Prabhu Deva

The great dance choreographer, film director, producer and actor, Prabhu Deva has made the audience groove to his moves for ages. The mesmerizing dancing skills of the director is what makes him different from others on the list. While you might have come across his brilliant dancing cameos in movies, the director was seen shaking a leg in his cameo roles in movies like ‘Rowdy Rathore‘, ‘Action Jackson‘ and ‘Singh is Bling‘. The director has even received various accolades for his wide range of dancing styles and was even embraced by Padma Shri for his contributions to dance in 2019. 

Madhur Bhandarkar

This director made a cameo in one of the recognized ventures of all time. The director made an appearance in his film Fashion, where he was seen as an audience in a fashion show who was there to research the life of the models as he plans on making a movie about it. Well, how realistic!! 

Kunal Deshmukh

The Indian director Kunal Deshmukh is not only a dictator but a successful restaurateur. Starting his career as an assistant director in the movie, Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Zeher, Kalyug, and Woh Lamhe, the director soon rose to fame as a director with his work in the film, Tum Mile.

The director made a cameo in his movie ‘Raja Natwarlal‘ playing the character of a passerby in the mall whose wallet is picked by Emraan Hashmi. While this role was intended to be played by a junior artist, however, the artist failed to appear on the sets, and for not making any delays in the shooting, the director decided to do the role himself.

Farah Khan

Well, we certainly do not have to mention the peppy appearances made by this director. The director Farah Khan is one of the prominent directors of the Bollywood industry who has given several blockbuster hits throughout her career. She is amongst one of those directors who never fails to give credits to all her team who made the film successful and tries to introduce her entire team at the end of the movie.
