Love it or hate it, it is true that Bollywood and TV industry are one of the biggest identifying factors for India whether we agree to it or not.TV industry and cinema are the two main industries which have an enormous impact on our society which impacts both – the mind and thought process of an individual. But, no matter how popular you are on small screen, you want to make it big in the bigger arena. And that is exactly what some of these popular TV actors did. Some of them forayed into Bollywood quitting their successful TV careers while some of them did it to try their luck out. So, lets have a look at such TV stars who went on to make it big into Bollywood:
Pulkit shifted to Mumbai in 2005, and made his television debut in the role of Lakshya Virani in the long-running television show, by Balaji Telefilms, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2006, which got his first recognition, though he quit the show in 2007 He made his film debut with Bittoo Boss (2012), and has even worked in the film Fukrey series which was a blockbuster hit.
She has starred in over 75 Gujarati films; and notable Hindi films including Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho,etc. She also has many television credits to her name, some of which are Nach Baliye 2, Bigg Boss, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and Behenein. Ketki had acted in Zee TV serial Ye Dil Kya Kare in 2001.
Ayushmann Khurrana is one the most versatile actors and is amongst the list of multi-talented actor who is both: an accomplished actor and a superb singer. The actor recently gave many hit blockbusters to Bollywood such as Bala, Dream Girl, Article 15, Badhaai ho and Andhadhun. He became famous in the industry after his Bollywood debut Vicky Donor which was a box-office hit. It is quite surprising to know that Ayushmann Khurrana was noticed on TV at the age of 17. It was the reality show on Channel V; PopStars in 2002. He was one of the youngest contestants on the show. Roadies took place in 2004 whereby he turned out to be the winner in Roadies 2 at the age of 20. After completing his graduation and post-graduation in Journalism, his first job was as an RJ at BIG FM, Delhi and hosted the show Big Chai – Maan Na Maan, Main Tera Ayushmann.
Karan Singh Grover
Karan Singh Grover debuted with Balaji Telefimls’ Kitnii Mast Hai Zindagi but rose to fame with their Kasautii Zindagii Kay. He became the most oular face on TV with his role of Dr. Armaan Malik in Dill Mill Gayye. But then he went on to work in Bollywood and tried his luck there. He has done 4 films so far, out of which 2 came last year only, but he hasn’t had much luck yet.
She is well-known for portraying Kashish Sinha in Kahiin to Hoga and Komolika Chaubey in Kasautii Zindagii Kay. Sharif made her acting debut as Kashish Sinha in Kahiin To Hoga opposite Rajeev Khandelwal. She has worked in films like: Aloo Chaat, Aao Wish Karein, etc.

Shah Rukh Khan, despite all his fame, has always been down to earth. Shah Rukh Khan’s movies have always blown his FANS away with his performance. Khan’s first starring role was in Lekh Tandon’s television series Dil Dariya, which began shooting in 1988, but production delays led to the Raj Kumar Kapoor directed 1989 series Fauji becoming his television debut instead. In the series, which depicted a realistic look at the training of army cadets, he played the leading role of Abhimanyu Rai. Irrfan Yaseen Khan, also credited as simply Irfan, is an Indian film actor, known for his work predominantly in Hindi cinema, as well as his works in British films and Hollywood. Khan moved to Mumbai, where he acted in numerous television serials, including Chanakya, Bharat Ek Khoj, Sara Jahan Hamara, Banegi Apni Baat, Chandrakanta, Shrikant (Doordarshan), AnooGoonj on Doordarshan, Star Bestsellers (Star Plus), and Sparsh. Earlier, he had acted in a teleplay on Doordarshan named Laal Ghaas Par Neele Ghode where he played Lenin. However, his first Bollywood lead role came in 2005 with film Rog.
Prachi Desai is an Indian film actress and former television actress. She started her television career as lead protagonist in the successful TV drama Kasamh Se on Zee TV. She made her Bollywood debut in the 2008 film Rock On!! Her other notable features include Life Partner (2009), Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), Bol Bachchan (2012) and I, Me Aur Main (2013), Azhar,etc.
Yami Gautam was twenty when she moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in movies. She made her television debut with Chand Ke Paar Chalo, which was followed by Raajkumar Aaryyan. Following this, she played her most notable role in Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam which aired on Colors. Furthermore, she participated in the reality shows Meethi Choori No 1 and Kitchen Champion Season 1. In 2012, Gautam made her Hindi film debut with the comedy Vicky Donor, which was a critical and commercial success. She went on to star as a young wife in the crime film Badlapur (2015), a blind woman in the thriller Kaabil (2017), and an intelligence officer in the action thriller Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019). Aditya Roy Kapur
Aditya Roy Kapur is well known for his performances in the 2013 films Aashiqui 2 and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, both of which rank among the highest-grossing Bollywood films. He has also appered in numerous films like: Kalank, Fitoor, Action Replayy, etc. Kapur started his career as a VJ on music channel Channel V India, where his comic timing and “unique style of hosting” made him a hit. He did a show “Pakao” for Channel V, and also hosted the hugely popular, ‘India’s hottest’ show with VJ, Bruna Abdullah. He exited the show in 2008. In 2009, Kapur made his acting debut with the Vipul Shah-directed musical comedy London Dreams.
He is best known for playing the role of Neev in Balaji’s “Kayamath” on Star Plus. He made his debut in Bollywood with Platform No.6 in 2013 followed by Hate Story 2 and Ek Paheli Leela. But none of the films worked on box office. He was last seen in season 7 of Khatron Ke Khiladi.
Sushant Singh Rajput
Rajput started his career with television serials. His debut show was Star Plus’s romantic drama Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil(2008), followed by an award-winning performance in Zee TV’s popular soap opera Pavitra Rishta (2009–11). Rajput made his film debut in the buddy drama Kai Po Che! (2013), for which he received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He then starred in the romantic comedy Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) and as the titular detective in the action thriller Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015). His highest-grossing releases came with a supporting role in the satire PK (2014), followed by the titular role in the sports biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016).
Vidya Balan is one of the reigning queens of Bollywood who despite facing several hardships during the initial days of her career, emerged as a star. She is one of the most versatile actresses of Bollywood who is not only known for her acting but for her bold decisions as well. Vidya made her Hindi film debut in 2005 with Pradeep Sarkar’s musical drama Parineeta. After trying his luck in TV soap operas, the actor went on to act in Bollywood films and has worked in films like Agent Vinod (2012), Student Of The Year (2013) and Humshakals (2014).
Manish Paul is our favorite host on Indian TV. He has hosted many reality shows and few award shows as well. He debuted in Bollywood with his film Micky Virus but the movie tanked. He was recently seen in Tere Bin Laden 2 and now is back to TV.
Ronit received a call from Balaji Telefilms to offer him a part in the television serial Kammal. Due to the lack of any appealing movie offers, he accepted the offer. Before Kammal got started, Balaji Telefilms also offered Ronit for Kasautii Zindagii Kay as Rishabh Bajaj, a ruthless yet suave middle aged business tycoon. Roy’s impressive performance as Mr. Bajaj made him popular and landed him in Balaji Telefilms’ Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi as Mihir Virani, replacing Amar Upadhyay. Apart from these he has acted in numerous TV serials and made his debut in Hindi film industry with Jaan Tere Naam (1992) which was a commercial success. He starred with Aditya Pancholi and Kishori Shahane in Bomb Blast (1993) and various other movies as well.
