The trend of sequels and prequels have created some great franchise movies in Bollywood. However, it has created some dissatisfaction as well among the audience.
There are many instances when filmmakers changed the story complete with the fresh cast or just replaced a few key characters from the story.
Here, we have created a list of Bollywood movies in which famous Bollywood actors were replaced.
Sometimes it worked in favor and the audience got to see amazing movies while sometimes the audience criticized the character replacements.
Emraan Hashmi – Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara
Emraan Hashmi played the character of Shoaib Khan in the movie Once Upon A Time In Mumbai.
His acting skills and character was appreciated by fans as well as critics. However, makers replaced him with Akshay Kumar in the sequel of the movie.
It is probably a good idea as the character of Shoaib Khan was written differently in the Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara.
Akshay Kumar – Welcome Back
Welcome is one of the best comedy classics in Bollywood. Akshay Kumar played the lead character in the movie.
However, the sequel of the movie Welcome Back was released where most of the famous characters of the movie were reprised but Akshay Kumar.
The lead actor in Welcome Back was John Abraham.
Ali Zafar – Tere Bin Laden Dead Or Alive
Ali Zafar rose to fame after the satirical comedy Tere Bin Laden.
After 6 years, the sequel of the movie was planned but Ali Zafar was replaced by Manish Paul in the movie.
Arshad Warsi – Jolly L.L.B 2
Arshad Warsi shines in the character of Meerut fiery lawyer Jolly in the Jolly L.L.B.
The makers were all set to recreate the magic again. However, they decided to create more buzz with Akshay star power.
Emraan Hashmi – Murder 3
Emraan Hashmi was the lead in Murder and Murder 2.
In the third installment of the hit series, makers decided to go with the completely fresh cast and sign Randeep Hooda to play the lead role.
Gracy Singh – Lage Raho Munna Bhai
Gracy Singh played the love interest of Sanjay Dutt in the Munnabhai M.B.B.S.
However, the Munnabhai and Circuit got a complete transformation, story, and new actress in the second movie. Vidya Balan replaced Gracy Singh.
Isha Kopikkar – Don 2
Isha Koppikkar was seen as Don’s sidekick opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Don.
However, she was replaced by Lara Dutta in Don 2.
Kajal Agarwal – Singham Returns
Kajal was the lead actress in Singham. Singham returns to theatre and gets roaring success but Kajal was not seen reprising her role in the movie.
Kareena Kapoor was seen romancing Ajay Devgn.
Kareena Kapoor – Golmaal 4
Kareena Kapoor was seen in Golmaal Returns and then reprised her character in Golmaal 3.
She was also considered to reprise her character in Golmaal 4 but due to her pregnancy, she wasn’t part of the film.
Parineeti Chopra was approached to play the female lead in the movie.
Aman Siddiqui – Bhootnath Returns
Everyone loves the cute kid of Bhootnath. The friendship of Banku in Bhootnath was appreciated.
However, in the Bhootnath returns, Bhootnath continues his journey but child actor Aman Siddiqui was replaced by Parth Bhalerao.
Saif Ali Khan – Race 3
Saif Ali Khan was praised for his acting skills in action thriller Race.
He reprises the role in the sequel of Race as well. However, Race 3 was a complete reboot with Salman Khan as lead actor and Remo D’Souza as director.
Divyendu Sharma and Raayo S Bakhirta – Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2
Pyaar Ka Punchnama has shown us an epic trio played by Karthik Aryan, Divyendu Sharma, and Raayo S Bakhirta.
However, only Karthik Aryan was seen in the sequel and other two lead actors were replaced with Omkar Kapoor and Sunny Singh.
Ritesh Deshmukh – Kya Kool Hain Hum
Tushaar Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh have been part of Kya Kool Hain Hum and Kya Super Kool Hain Hum.
In the third installment of the movie, Riteish Deshmukh was replaced by Aftab Shivdasani.
Rimi Sen – Golmaal Returns
Golmaal was a success and that made Rohit Shetty a bankable director.
Probably this is the reason that he replaced Rimi Sen with Kareena Kapoor in the Golmaal Returns.
Sharman Joshi – Golmaal Returns
Sharman Joshi did a commendable job in Golmaal. However, he was replaced with Shreyas Talpade in the Golmaal series.
It was reported that there were creative differences due to which he was replaced.
Vidya Balan – Dedh Ishqiya
Ishqiya was a hit and everybody loved Vidya Balan’s character. Years later, makers came up with a completely different story showing the journey of Babban and Khalu Jaan.
Madhuri Dixit replaced Vidya Balan in the movie.
