The immensely talented Indian film actor, Manoj Bajpayee has been working in the industry for the past 27 years. Recipient of various awards, the actor has worked in innumerable films ranging from Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages.

Apart from this, he has also worked in various short films as well such as Kriti, Ouch, Taandav, etc. Talking about his role in the Amazon series, The family man, Manoj played the role of Srikant Tiwari, a secret agent, and a Senior Analyst in T.A.S.C. The hardships, performance, and his ability to get into the skin of the character made him win the Critics Choice Best Actor, Drama Series Award at the 2020 Filmfare OTT Awards.

The actor showcases a married man with two kids, and the first season follows an investigation of a potential terrorist attack, while simultaneously following his slightly unsettled family life.

The actor has been embraced with one of the most prestigious awards of the industry that is, the national film awards of India for three times! He received his first award as the Best supporting actor in 1998 for his breakthrough performance in the film Satya.

After this, he earned his second award in 2003 for the Indian drama period film, Pinjar. Finally, he garnered his third award in 2020 for his film, Bhonsle. Manoj was named after the legendary actor Manoj Kumar and has 5 other siblings out of which his younger sister is the world-famous fashion designer, Poonam Dubey.


Bollywood movie, Luck: He was offered to play Ravi Kishan’s role in the film, but turned it down.

Thakshak: signed for the movie but had to step back because Ram Gopal didn’t want any hindrances during the shooting of Satya. 


Masaan: Was approached for a role in the film, but did not work out. 

Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya: Almost signed up for a role but got engaged in a fall out with Ram Gopal Verma and left the film.

Paanch: Due to a fight with Anurag over the film Satya, Anurag signed the actor Kay Kay Menon for the film. 


Devdas: Was approached for a supporting role of Chunni babu in the film. however, the actor turned down the offer since he didn’t want to become a second fiddle or a supporting actor in a film. The role went to Jackie Shroff. 


Rang De Basanti: The lead role of Aamir Khan in this classic movie was offered to Manoj and Vivek Oberoi was offered for Siddharth’s role. However, the film was stalled when the original producers backed out.

The Forest: Signed the movie, but later got replaced by the actor, Javed Jeffery. 

Omkara: The actor Manoj Bajpayee desperately wanted to play the role of Langda Tyagi in the film. However, he was not signed by Vishal due to some financial reasons.


Paan Singh Tomar: Wanted to play the lead in the film, however the director, Tigmanshu declined to cast him and it went to the late actor, Irfan Khan. 


Tezz: Was approached and signed for the role. But later backed out since he didn’t want to be for such a small role. The role later went to Boman Irani. 

Water: Turned down the lead role in the film.


Jazbaa: The actor was approached for the role of Abbas Yusuf in the movie. However, got replaced by the actor, Abhimanyu Singh.

Ek Se Badhkar Ek: Didn’t sign in for the role because of the less amount offered to him for the same. The role later went to Shekhar Suman.


Hollywood movie Extraction: Felt that the character of Randeep was more focussed than him and walked outpost which, Pankaj Tripathi was signed for the role. 


Darna Mana Hai: Against the role played by Sanjay Kapoor.


Dangal: Surprisingly, the actor was approached to play a negative role in the film opposite the actor Aamir Khan. However, he didn’t want to be seen in a negative role in this film and it went to Girish Kulkarni.


Bhoot: The initial star cast of the film rumored to have Manoj in the lead role, however, due to a fallout with Ram Gopal Varma, Ajay Devgn was signed for the role. 

Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag: For the role of Thambe, Samba. 

Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega: Ideally, Manoj was the first choice for the role but due to fallout with Ram Gopal, Saif Ali Khan was signed for the role.

Apart from his various shelved projects, the actor loses upon a chance to be a part of various cult classics such as:

  • In 1999, Manoj Bajapayee became a part of the shelved movie named Dharti opposite the actress Rani Mukherjee. 
  • In 2001, Manoj starred in the shelved film by N.S. International named, Paanchi. Directed by Parto Ghosh, apart from Manoj, this movie included various stars such as Mahima Chaudhry, Shamita Shetty, Ehsan Khan, etc. 
  • In 2000-2001, the actor became a part of Ajay Devgn Productions shelved project named, Barf. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, this film also included the stunning actress, Sushmita Sen. 

In 1999 – 2000, the actor became a part of the shelved film, Maati which was based on the lives of Dalits and Thakur’s. This film by Neeraj Pathak also included actors Fardeen Khan and Mahima Chaudhary.

In 2002, he starred in Padmalaya Production shelved film opposite the granddaughter of Prem Nath, that is, Akanksha Malhotra. 

Now, this shelved project is something whose name is enough to create excitement! Manoj became a part of the shelved film, Syaah – A Walk on The Dark Side opposite the actress, Bipasha Basu. It would have been a highly amazing project if not shelved. 

The actor got a chance to star opposite his wife in Hansal Mehta’s shelved film, Netwa back in 1999. The film was based upon the men in Bihar who dance in drag. 

Shelved due to some problems with the producer, the actor starred in the shelved Indo/French film ” All Alone” opposite Miss World 1997, Diana Hayden. Co-starring Nigar Khan, Bikram Saluja. The film was based on the Independence of Mauritius in 1968 and was to be directed by Ritesh Batra.

In 2004, he starred in Mehul Kumar’s shelved film ” Azaadi” Starred in Rahul Roy’s shelved remake of Sam, I am. Co-starring Sushmita Sen as a lawyer, when the director found out that Harry Baweja was also trying his hands on remaking the same film with the same actress, he shelved the film.

Another shelved product opposite the actress Bipasha was in 2004 named, Surkh – The Bloody Battle.

Monoj starred in the movie Ek Anokhi Prem Kahani alongside actress Kareena Kapoor. He was supposed to play a blind man in the film, however got replaced by the actor Sanjay Dutt. Later on, the project got shelved in 2002. 

Starred in the shelved 2002 Indo-Canadian film “Indigo”. Co-starring Sarah Polley. Directed by Toronto-based director Suresh Natrajan. The film was to be shot all over Toronto and Kerala. The film was to be about an American Mohiniyattam dance student who falls in love with a Hindu priest.
