10 Disappointing Bollywood Remakes That Failed To Make An Impact

Bollywood is not bored at all with its formula to remake successful movies.

In the year 2020, we have seen some remake movies but we will be bombarded with tons of remake in upcoming years.

For your information, many remake projects have been announced already. While the formula is successful for many actors, it didn’t guarantee 100 percent success at all.

We have witnessed many remake movies that were backlashed by fans as well as critics. Here, we have created a list of disappointing Bollywood remakes that failed to impress the audience.

Umrao Jaan (2006)

Umrao Jaan starring Rekha is a classic masterpiece. The actress is even famous by her character name as Rekha delivered a stunning performance in the movie.

Sadly the remake of the movie directed by JP Dutta failed to connect with the audience. The Umrao Jaan remake has Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead role.

Aag (2007)

Ram Gopal Verma is a director famous for making movies on subjects that are controversial or bizarre in many ways.

However, Ramu’s version of Sholay tanked at the box office and is a forgettable movie for the whole star cast that includes Amitabh Bachchan, Mohanlal, Ajay Devgn, Sushmita Sen, and Urmila Matondkar.

Karzzzz (2008)

Himesh Reshammiya made a remarkable acting debut with the movie Aap Ka Suroor. He went on to feature in movies again as an actor and the script was a remake of Rishi Kapoor starrer Karz.

The movie got negative reviews but fans loved the music album of the movie. According to fans, Karzzzz is nothing in comparison to Subhash Ghai’s directed reincarnation-drama Karz.

Himmatwala (2013)

Himmatwala is one of the best movies in Jitendra filmography. There were many rumors that Bollywood should recreate the magic of 80s blockbuster Himmatwala again.

Well, Sajid Khan decided to remake the movie with Ajay Devgn and Tamannah Bhatia in the lead role.

The movie tanked at the box office and critics have also pointed out the creative mistakes of the director. Even Sajid Khan commented that he didn’t do the final project he was hoping for.

Zanjeer (2013)

Zanjeer movie got Amitabh Bachchan a huge success in the Bollywood industry. He became the famous ‘Angry Young Man’.

Makers wanted to generate huge cash by remaking the classic with south actor Ram Charan Teja and Priyanka Chopra in the lead role. Sadly, the movie went unnoticed and received tons of negative reviews on performance and screenplay.

The Shaukeens (2015)

The comedy classic Shaukeens starring Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt, and A. K. Hangal was reprised with the new set of actors.

The movie featured Anupam Kher, Anu Kapoor, and Piyush Mishra playing the lead role. However, the movie failed to recreate the classic. For the record, the movie also has Akshay Kumar playing himself and Lisa Haydon in a dynamic role.

Hero (2015)

The official remake of classic Hero was produced by Salman Khan. It was the debut movie of star kids Sooraj Pancholi and Aathiya Shetty.

While critics said the performance by the actor was average, the movie was nothing like the original. It can be said that making a remake can’t always promise the same response from fans.

Players (2012)

The Italian Job is one of the best films in the Heist genre. However, Bollywood movie players starring Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, and Bobby Deol didn’t perform well at the box office.

The director Duo Abbas Mastaan is famous in the Industry for directing some of the best Hollywood remake movies however, they failed with the Italian Job.

James (2005)

The movie Shiva directed by Ram Gopal Varma is one of the best action movies of all time.

However, the remake of Shiva was planned with the new star cast while Ram Gopal Varma produced the movie. The movie failed to generate the expected ticket sale.

The story revolves around James who works as a bouncer in the club and to be a big shot starts doing shady things.

Aatish (1994)

The movie Deewar starring Amitabh Bachchan and Sashi Kapoor is one of the best Bollywood movies of the 70s.

Makers tried to recreate the same films with a different set of actors that include Sanjay Dutt and Aaditya Pancholi.

The movie Aatish failed to make a long-lasting impression in the audience’s mind. We can expect the verdict and response of the audience for the movie Coolie No. 1 starring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan.

The movie is an official remake of a 90s classic by the same name.
